What does a typical day look like for a tourism and hospitality student at UMCTO? We followed second-year student Amina through a full training day.
The day begins with a 30-minute briefing covering weather conditions, wildlife movement reports from partner parks, and the day's training objectives.
Amina's Tour Guiding cohort heads to the campus nature trail for bird identification exercises. Today's target: identifying 15 species by sight and call within two hours.
Back on campus for a lecture on tourism marketing and digital booking systems. Students work through real case studies from Tanzanian tour operators.
Afternoon sessions rotate between the training kitchen, mock reception, and vehicle maintenance workshop. Today, Amina practices guest check-in procedures and complaint handling.
Students use the library and computer lab to complete assignments, research destinations, and prepare for upcoming field trips.
“Every day is different,” says Amina. “That's what I love about UMCTO — you never feel like you're just sitting in a classroom.”
